Winning National Championships!

One team, one dream! Saturday 29th June, the goal was clear, winning the national road championships in the Netherlands.
Easier said than done, especially with many super strong riders on the startlist which makes the Dutch Championships a small World Championships.
The conditions where super hard, temperatures above 35 degrees with no fresh wind to cool you down. Even though the course wasn’t the hardest, the race is always made by the riders.

With a course of five laps of 25,2 km the team started their dream to win the National Championships. Halfway the race a break of 12 strong riders got away. The team planned a controlled chase with all riders at the front of the peloton. The breakaway did not get an advantage above the 50 seconds where the team was in total control. The team was alert and committed to bring the break back but not too soon. In the last lap the race opened up and with 12 km to go the break got caught.

A small group of favorites where left, with among them our Lorena Wiebes, fresh and with full focus. Cold as Ice and with super instinct she played poker on the highest level. The last 500 meters slightly uphill sprint she timed perfectly. Riding as forth in the last corner she followed the wheel of Amy Pieters who started sprinting early and with 200 meters to go Lorena started her engine.

The 20 years old Lorena Wiebes won her first National Titel at the women elite category!!
